Our Classroom
This year our classroom will be going through some changes. Due to the continued need to self-distance we will be starting our new school year virtually. I know this can be a challenge for Kindergarten students, but if we work together we can help your child have a successful year.
Virtual learning will require your child spend 60-90 minutes a day online with me during Zoom or Google Meet. This time will be broken up into 10-15 minute increments. These lessons will include a daily Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies lesson. I will also schedule additional time for 15 minute small group or one-on-one targeted lessons. I will meet with every student during the week. However, I may meet with some students more than once. The frequency will vary based on the needs of the students. These small group or individual lessons will not begin until after the 9th week of school.
The rest of your child's day will be spent completing work independently or with some help at home with you. Our class will be using the BLEND (canvas) online platform provided by AISD. Through this learning platform your child will be linked to additional online resources that will be utilized to complete the independent work. These resources are, but not limited to Seesaw, Flipgrid, Google Classroom, and Dreambox.
It may take your child 5 weeks or more to successfully establish an independent working stamina. If your child is having a difficult time working independently for more than 5 minutes that is okay. Start with 5 minute increments and once that is successful increase it to 10 minutes. Take frequent movement and brain breaks to keep your child engaged. Generally, Kindergarten students can sit still for 5-6 minutes before they need to move. Once these routines are established your child will be able to successfully complete work independently.
